What is a VA?

As defined by the International Virtual Assistance Association (IVAA):

“A Virtual Assistant (VA) is an independent entrepreneur providing administrative, creative and/or technical services. Utilizing advanced technological modes of communication and data delivery, a professional VA assists clients in his/her area of expertise from his/her own office on a contractual basis."

Virtual Assistants are secretaries, administrative assistants and executive assistants that provide a myriad of services to businesses "virtually" from the comfort of their own home office. VA's rarely meet their clients face to face. All communication is made through the use of telephone, email, fax and instant messaging.

A VA can save you money as the VA's home office is already fully equipped with the latest computers, software, printers, scanners, fax machines, digital cameras (if required) and office furniture, there are no expenses to you for equipment or office space. In addition, your VA is responsible for paying their own taxes and providing their own health benefits. You will not be charged for breaks, sick days or holidays as would be the case if you hired a full or part time staff member, you pay only for "time spent" on your projects.
